Oneness with God: You’re Not Far, You Never Were

You hear it all the time: “I just want to get closer to God.” “I’m trying to draw near.” “I want to feel Him again.” It sounds sincere. It sounds humble. It even sounds spiritual.

But what if that mindset itself is built on a distance that doesn’t exist? Because the Kingdom never taught closeness. It revealed oneness.

Why does “getting closer to God” miss what the Kingdom actually teaches?

The language of closeness implies distance — two separate beings trying to narrow a gap between them. But that is not the language of the New Covenant. The New Covenant doesn’t describe a journey toward God. It describes a union with God. There is no gap to close because the gap has already been abolished through the finished work of Jesus.

Trying to “get close” to God is like standing in the ocean and praying for water. The very thing you are seeking is the environment you are already standing in. The pursuit isn’t wrong in its heart — but it’s misdirected, aimed at a distance that is no longer real.

What does 1 Corinthians 6:17 reveal about your union with God?

Scripture doesn’t say you’re near God. 1 Corinthians 6:17 says: “He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” Not close. Not approaching. Not walking beside. One. You are not two entities trying to connect. You are not on a journey toward intimacy. You are already fused — spirit to Spirit — in a union the New Covenant established and the finished work of Jesus secured.

This is not poetic language. This is the literal spiritual reality of every son of God who is in Christ. The union is complete. The oneness is established. The only thing that can change is your awareness of it — not the reality itself.

Why do so many believers feel far from God when they are already one with Him?

Because intimacy is being measured by emotion instead of truth. Feelings fluctuate. Awareness deepens. When you use how you feel as the measure of how close you are to God, you will always be subject to the instability of emotional experience — and you will spend your whole life chasing a connection that was already given to you.

God isn’t far off. He isn’t waiting for effort, emotion, or performance. He is a Father who infused Himself into you by His Spirit. The more you believe this, the more you will live from it. The feeling follows the believing — not the other way around.

What does John 17 say about the nature of your union with the Father?

Jesus Himself prayed this in John 17:21-23: “That they may be one, just as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You… I in them, and You in Me.” That is not proximity language. That is oneness language. Jesus was praying for the same quality of union He shares with the Father to be the reality of every son of God.

And Colossians 3:3 confirms it: “Your life is hidden with Christ in God.” Hidden in — not approaching, not qualifying, not striving. Already positioned. Already placed. Already secured in the deepest possible union with the Father.

How do you shift from striving for closeness to living from oneness?

You start by believing what Scripture actually says — not what your feelings report. You make the shift from “I am trying to get close to God” to “I am becoming more aware of the oneness that already exists.” You let truth recalibrate your spiritual frame of reference, so that your daily life is no longer a pursuit of God but a living from God.

This isn’t a journey of distance. It’s a journey of awareness. You are not far from God. You never were. And the moment you fully believe that — the moment awareness catches up to truth — everything about how you live, pray, and relate to the Father shifts permanently.
