What if time was never meant to rule you — but was created as a tool for you to wield as a son of God?

We live in a world that is enslaved to time. Urgency, deadlines, the relentless forward march of the clock — modern life is largely defined by the tyranny of time. But here’s what most believers have never been taught: time is a created entity. God exists outside of it.

And because you are in Christ — hidden with Him in the Father — you have been given access to an existence that is not subject to time the way the fallen world is. You are designed to use time, not to be used by it.

When Was Time Created — and What Was Its Original Purpose?

Time came into existence when God spoke creation into being. Before creation, there was only eternity — the timeless, ever-present now of God’s own existence. When He created the world, He established time as an indicator of seasons, a tool to structure His purposes within the physical realm.

Time was designed to inform, not to dictate. It was meant to be a servant of creation, not its master. The Fall inverted this — time, twisted by the curse of urgency and mortality, became the framework of fear and scarcity that governs fallen humanity.

How Did the Fall Pervert Our Relationship with Time?

Before the Fall, Adam walked with God in the cool of the day. There was no hurry. No deadline. No urgency pressing him to perform. Time was simply the rhythm of relationship.

After the Fall, time became the framework of mortality. “In the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread” (Genesis 3:19) — urgency, labour, and the fear of not having enough became the operating system. Time stopped being a tool and became a taskmaster. The curse of urgency — the constant pressure to produce, achieve, or survive before time runs out — entered the human experience.

What Did Jesus Accomplish Regarding Time?

Jesus came to bring you into eternal life — a life that does not subject you to time but empowers you to use time as a tool. He broke the curse. He restored your access to eternity. And in eternity, there is no urgency, no lack, no “running out of time.”

John 17:3 says eternal life is knowing the Father and the Son — present tense, not future. This means you are already living in the eternal now. Your eternity began the moment you were born again. You are not waiting to escape time — you are called to rule over it as a son.

How Do You Live From Eternity and Into Time?

Sons of God don’t live from time — they live from eternity into time. Decisions are made from the Father’s perspective, not from the pressure of the clock. Vision comes from the eternal purposes of God, not from the urgent demands of the moment.

This is why Paul says, “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2). “Above” is not a location — it’s an orientation. It means letting your consciousness be rooted in the eternal reality of who you are in Christ, then bringing that reality to bear on your circumstances.

How Do You Break Free from the Tyranny of Urgency?

The tyranny of urgency is broken by dwelling in the Father. When you are consciously inhabiting the eternal now — resting in His presence — urgency loses its grip. You stop making fear-based decisions and start making faith-based ones.

• Practice pausing before responding to urgent feelings — ask the Spirit for perspective first.
• Remind yourself daily: “I am hidden with Christ in the Father. Time serves me; I don’t serve time.”
• Let prayer be a return to eternity, not just a request line — enter His rest before you ask anything.
• Replace urgency with trust: the Father who is outside of time is guiding your story within time.
